      Hey Fiona
      Because lasers are usually very small, you can make thousands of them at a time! On a recent project I was working, we designed about 19,000 lasers on chip that was 2 inches in diameter. It was expensive to make the chip, but when you have so many lasers then to sell/use the cost per laser is very small. The lasers used in CD/DVD players only cost a couple of cent each because they are made in HUGE quantities!
